Welcome to Classrooms for Africa

What do we do?
The Classrooms for Africa (C4A) initiative provides assistance to communities in Africa who have taken on the challenge of providing education for disadvantaged children. In conjunction with ACSI Western Canada schools and other donors C4A provides grants to help build classrooms and other school buildings. In addition, C4A connects schools to Christian teacher training and resources.

Who are we?
Classrooms for Africa operates under the Dunamis Education Society (DES) which is a registered non-profit organization in Canada. Donations are tax-receiptable if made in Canada. Classrooms for Africa is run by a board committed to providing educational opportunities for the disadvantaged. The Executive Director is the only fulltime staff member. His salary is covered from sources other than project donations. Volunteers are crucial to keeping the projects on track and keeping costs to a minimum.

Where do we operate?
At present the focus of our efforts is Eastern and Southern Africa. Up to date we have supported projects in Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Lesotho, South Africa and Kenya.

What else besides school buildings?
  • While schools and organizations which receive grants are expected to be self-supporting, from time to time C4A does get involved in raising emergency funds for schools in crisis.
  • We promote larger projects, outside of our normal range, to donors
  • We link schools and educators in North America with schools and educators in Africa including teacher/student exchanges
  • We organize "discovery" tours for educators and donors interested in seeing first-hand the impact that one classroom can make on a community. Click here for video of educator tour in 2010
