Help Make It Happen
If you are interested as a school or an individual in funding a classroom, please contact Classrooms for Africa by email (info@classrooms4a.org) as soon as possible. Please request promotional materials here (info@classrooms4a.org).
Each school year ACSI Western Canada selects a specific Classrooms for Africa project to promote and support. The various member school communities raise funds for the project throughout the year. Ninety five percent of the money raised goes towards that specific project. Five per cent is used for administration costs. The current project selected involves the building of 12 classrooms in 2012 in Zimbabwe.
Background
Classrooms for Africa has became aware of the exciting possibility to complete 12 classrooms for two newly established Christian schools at a cost of only $4,000 per classroom! Two properties, both of which have partially completed structures on them, have been secured by Zimbabwean churches to develop the classrooms. Having foundations and some materials in place will save on building costs and time. C4A staff visited both sites in September 2011, surveyed the buildings and are convinced this is a great opportunity. Local authorities have in both cases granted ownership of the land and buildings to the local church/mission but if no development takes place within the next year, the authorities have the right to take back the properties. Plans are being drawn up for both projects so that they will be ready to go ahead as soon as funds are available.
Location
One of the properties is in northwest Zimbabwe – Hwange District. The other is in the Chiredzi District in southeast Zimbabwe. In both locations C4A has meet with the local community leaders and is assured of a high level of community support and involvement. As a result of this project over 500 students will, for the first time, be able attend classes in proper classrooms.
The Goal
The goal is to raise a total of $48,000 through offerings at teacher’s conventions and through individuals and schools fund-raising efforts during the 2011-12 school year. This will enable the completion of the 12 classrooms, each costing $4,000. Each individual or school who contributes $4,000 will be recognized by a plaque placed in the completed classroom. Followup information and photos of the completed buidlings will be available.
