Tirrim Nomadic Primary, is a Christian school started by the Africa Inland Church in 2004. It grew out of kindergartens located in semi-nomidic villages in the far north of Kenya. The school offers education for the lower primary grades. It had some classrooms but needed to build more because many classes were still without shelter in a very inhospitable environment.
In 2009 C4A provided a grant through donations from an ACSI school in Western Canada to build a large roofed structure of metal and cement to house the students and provide protection from the heat, sun and harsh environment. All materials for the building had to be shipped in over hazardous roads from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. In January 2010 the school opened with line ups of up to 1000 students wanting to register. The community is so enthusiastic about the building, they use it for worship on Sundays and a temporary clinic when visiting medical teams serve the area.
Plans have been drawn up for the addition of 2 more classroom wings which will in total provide classroom accommodation for students up to grade four, an office, a teacher workroom, storage, kitchen and ablutions. C4A will be looking for more funds to achieve this goal!
