As a result of requests by donors, C4A has launched a bursary program. This is not a child-sponsorship program but an opportunity for one-time gifts to support a needy student. A donor makes a donation to the bursary program of between $300 - $1,000. C4A selects a school and notifies them of the availability of a bursary. The school selects the student who will receive help with payment of their fees, and sends a picture of the student with a brief description to be sent on to the donor. The student is not informed who the donor is and no communication is expected between them. At the end of the year the donor is notified as to the student's progress and if applicable invited to continue support of the bursary program.

Many donors feel comfortable providing help on a one-timel basis rather than having a long-term committment to the student. A result of the bursary system is that students are encouraged to work hard in order to be sure the school recommends them for a scholarship in future years.
