


Location:
Chidobe Christian School is located in a very poor area close to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The population has been effected by the high level of uncertainty surrounding the situation in the country over the past few years. Heritage Academy, a Christian school in South Africa, has been involved in reaching out to this impoverished community.
School information:
The school serves primary students and exists in very inadequate facilities. Heritage has provided resources and teacher training to the school and now has a full-time worker in Zimbabwe who helps oversee the school.
Building applied for:
Application was made for a multipurpose 2 classroom block to be built which will be used by the community for education. church and clinic. The community is contributing the labour and making the bricks themselves. Some of the basic building supplies have to be brought into the country from neighboring suppliers.
Cost:
Initial approved cost was $14,000 for 2 classrooms. Due to delays it is anticipated the final cost will be close to $20,000.
Disbursements:
Disbursement from South Africa, in installments as needed and as building progresses.
Status:
C4A approved the project in 2008 and the building was completed up to roof height. Due to circumstances beyond the control of C4A and the local community the project is now on hold. Recent developments hold out hope that the situation can be resolved and C4A representatives will visit the project in September 2011 with the goal of having the project completed by the end of 2011.
