


Location:
Sanangwe Christian Primary School (SCPS) is in the district of Masvingo in southeast Zimbabwe near Lake Mutirikwe (Lake Kyle). The lake was constructed in 1960 to help irrigate the sugarcane farms in the area. Due to the political uncertainty in the country in recent years, the economy has collapsed and the farms are not functioning. As a result most people in the area are now unemployed and living in poverty.
School information:
As the education system in the country has also collapsed, the government has appealed to local churches to reestablish existing schools. SCPS is one of three schools in the Masvingo area in desparate need of upgrading and equipping in order to become functional. The school has 370 students in Kindergarten through Grade 7.
Building applied for:
Application was made to Classrooms for Africa for a grant to help fund construction of a classroom block to supplement the existing renovated house on the land which up until now has served as a temporary school facility. Contruction is being undertaken by a local team of builders and supervised by staff from the Eagle's Nest Christian School in Polokwane, South Africa. SCPS is an outreach project of Eagle's Nest, which visits and supports the school on an ongoing basis.

The anticipated cost of the project is $20,000.
