Location:
Baptist Primary School in Foumbot, Cameroon, started in 1998 and serves over 300 students from grades 1 through 6, Students range from 6 - 12 years of age. The lower grades are currently held in the local Baptist church building while grades 4 through 6 are taught in 3 classrooms opposite the church. These classrooms are owned by the church and are made from wooden slats and bamboo. The church tries to reach out to the commlunity by providing education for the children, adult skill-training and health-care.
School information:
Students attending the school come from a very poor community, most of their parents being subsistance farmers, artisans or small-scale traders. Students only start school at the Grade One level because parents are unable to afford pre-school fees. The school is wanting to improve the education of children by providing more adequate facilities..
Building applied for:
Application has been made to Classrooms for Africa for a grant to help fund the construction of two classrooms each being 680 sq. ft..
Cost:
The project will cost an estimated $24,000, of which the local community and church will provide $8,000.
Disbursements:
Funds will be disbursed in installments and tracked by the Baptist Convention of Cameroon.
